SCYLAR is the brand of Alpha Management GmbH from Iserlohn, Germany, for the AI phone SCYLAR One and the operating system ScylarOS. ScylarOS is a smartphone operating system of its own – the third choice next to iOS and Android – with a personal AI that knows you and doesn't just answer, but acts for you. SCYLAR One costs €849 with no subscription and is sold in small numbers.

Scylar, SCYLAR One, ScylarOS – what is what?
- SCYLAR is the brand. Behind it is Alpha Management GmbH, Görresstraße 30, 58636 Iserlohn, Germany.
- SCYLAR One is the phone: a new Fairphone 5 that we set up with ScylarOS and send to you ready to use.
- ScylarOS is the operating system on it – with its own interface, more than twenty in-house apps, your AI and its own services.
- Scylar ID is the account that comes with ScylarOS. It links setup, backup and your next device.

An operating system of its own
ScylarOS is not Android and not iOS. The interface, apps such as Phone, Messages, Calendar, Camera, Gallery, Calculator, Search and Settings, the AI, the store and the services are developed in-house. Basic building blocks such as the kernel and device drivers come from open-source projects; licences and the source code offer are listed in the device's legal notices.
If you need more apps, you can switch on the optional Scylar app extension. It is off by default and is a separate add-on, not part of the core system.
The AI: yours, with the name you choose
At the centre is your AI. You give it a name and decide what it may do. It makes calls, writes messages, adds appointments, finds files and handles tasks in the built-in apps – by voice or text. The language model and speech recognition run on the phone. It only asks a larger AI on our servers if you agree. Details: Your AI.
The device and the price
SCYLAR One is based on the Fairphone 5: 6.46″ OLED at 90 Hz, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB storage (expandable by card), three 50 MP cameras, replaceable 4,200 mAh battery, 5G, dual SIM, IP55. The device is made by Fairphone; Fairphone has nothing to do with ScylarOS. We are the retailer and service provider.
The price: €849 including VAT for device and setup, no subscription. Buying in the shop needs an access code, otherwise you join the waiting list: SCYLAR One in the shop (German).
Honestly: the limits of the beta
ScylarOS is in beta. Many well-known apps that rely on manufacturer services – banking, payments, copy-protected streaming – do not run or run only in part. Contactless payment via NFC is not available yet. 4G calling (VoLTE) is not guaranteed with every carrier. On emergency calls, your location is not yet sent to the control centre automatically.
