SCYLAR One

How private is a smartphone with its own AI?

On SCYLAR One, what your AI knows about you – contacts, appointments, history – is stored encrypted on the phone, and the language model and speech recognition run there. A request only leaves the device if you agree to use a larger AI on our servers or if the live translator is not set to “local only”. An account, the Scylar ID, is required; the services behind it run on our servers in Germany, with no advertising tracking.

What stays on the device

Your AI knows your contacts, appointments and messages so that it can act for you. This knowledge is stored encrypted on the phone. The language model for text and tools and the speech recognition run on the device. Out of the box your AI thinks only on the phone. More: Your AI.

When something leaves the device

  • Larger AI: for harder tasks your AI can ask a larger AI on our servers – only with your consent. The setting “Ask when needed” asks before every use. The request then leaves the device.
  • Live translator: uses the servers unless it is set to “local only”.
  • Account, backup, store, updates: run on our own services on servers in Germany.

Encryption and verified start

Data on the phone is kept in an encrypted data vault. The key depends on your PIN and on a device secret. At start-up the system checks that it has not been altered. Updates come as a download from our update server and are only installed once you agree. Details: What is ScylarOS?

Honestly: a Scylar ID is required

There is no ScylarOS without a Scylar ID. It links the setup of your phone, the backup of your data and the move to your next device. If you want a phone with no account at the provider at all, SCYLAR One is not right for you.

No advertising, no tracking

There is no advertising tracking and no data goes to ad networks. What exactly we process is set out in the privacy policy (German). How this differs from other systems: Compare.
