SCYLAR One

An alternative to iPhone and Android: who is ScylarOS for?

ScylarOS on SCYLAR One is a smartphone operating system of its own – the third choice next to iOS and Android. It suits you if you want a built-in AI that you name yourself and that runs on the phone, and if you can live with the limits of a beta. If you depend on banking, payment or streaming apps, you are better off with iOS or Android today.

As of 1 November 2026

Who ScylarOS suits

  • You want an AI in your phone that makes calls, writes messages, adds appointments and finds files for you – with your name for it. More about your AI
  • It matters to you that the language model and speech recognition run on the device and that a larger AI on servers is only used with your consent.
  • You want services on servers in Germany and no advertising tracking.
  • The built-in ScylarOS apps are enough for you – or apps from a free app catalogue via the optional Scylar app extension.

Who it doesn't suit (yet)

  • You need certain well-known apps that rely on manufacturer services – banking, payments, copy-protected streaming. Many of them do not run or run only in part.
  • You want to pay contactless with your phone. NFC is not available yet.
  • You depend on 4G calling (VoLTE) with a particular carrier – it is not guaranteed with every one.
  • You want your location sent to the control centre automatically on emergency calls. ScylarOS cannot do that yet.
  • You want a phone with no account at the provider at all. A Scylar ID is required.

What is different

ScylarOS is not Android and not iOS. The interface, more than twenty in-house apps, the AI, the store and the services are developed by us; the kernel and device drivers come from open-source projects. ScylarOS runs on exactly one device, SCYLAR One. Updates come from our update server and are only installed once you agree – for 5 years from delivery. The differences in five points: Compare; the system explained: What is ScylarOS?
